Na luksuzni poniški ladji MS Europa se je pravkar končalo mednarodno pevsko tekmovanje Stella Maris, ki se ga vsako leto udeležuje le po osem pevcev in pevk po izboru ali kot delegati najpomembnejših opernih ansamblov in festivalov na svetu. Zmagala je armenska sopranistka Annush Hovhannisyan, ki je že po prvem krogu tekmovanja, to je v opernih arijah, prejela prvo mesto tako občinstva kot žirije, v drugem krogu, oratorijskem petju, pa se ni uvrstila med prve tri ne pri občinstvi ne pri žiriji. Očitno pa je odločil tretji krog, to je samospev.

Annush Hovhannisyan je prejela 15.000 evrov kot nagrado
občinstva in debut v Kraljevi operi v Kopenhagnu na Danskem. Prav tako je dobila priložnost za poskusno snemanje za Deutsche Grammophon.

Kot so se pokazali končni rezultati, je drugo mesto pri občinstvu prejel že mednarodno uveljavljeni in priznani britanski kontratenorist Jake Arditti, naša sopranistka Nika Gorič pa tretje mesto, kar je sijajen uspeh, če pomislimo, da je med osmimi nastopajočimi bila najmlajša.

Če pogledamo tri zmagovalce še po zastopstvu ali predstavništvu, potem vidimo, da je bila zmagovalka Annush Hovhannisyan kandidatka in izbrana pevka Kraljeve opere Covent Garden v Londonu, Jake Arditti izbranec dunajske opere Theater an der Wien in Nika Gorič Salzburških savnostnih iger – Young Singers Project. Torej: London, Dunaj, Salzburg!
Kot je po tekmovanju povedala Mariborčanka Nika Gorič, so vsi neizmerno veseli. Ne nazadnje je že samo potovanje s tako razkošno ladjo po Sredozemlju posebno redek in drag dogodek v življenju.

Armenian soprano Anush Hovhannisyan was a member of Jette Parker Young Artists Programme in the 2013/15 seasons. The winner of Concours Suisse Ernst Haefliger international Swiss competition, Anush made her debut in London as the Princess in El gato con botas (Puss in Boots) at the Linbury Theatre earning unanimous praise followed by her debut on the Royal Opera House main stage as Frasquita (Carmen). She has also sung the Voice of a Falcon in ROH’s award-winning production of Die Frau ohne Schatten under the baton of Semyon Bychkov. She sung the soprano parts in Gloria for the Royal Ballet, Verdi’s Requiem for ROH Education Department’s tour to France and Mendelssohn’s A midsummer night’s dream for Marinsky Ballet’s tour to London. Her roles for The Royal Opera House Covent Garden also include Lucilla (La scala di seta), Girl (Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny), Kate Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) as well as the preparation and understudy of Musetta (La Boheme), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) and Mathilde (Guillaume Tell). In 2015 Anush joined The Royal Opera’s tour to Japan singing Lady in Waiting (Macbeth), she had made her house and role debut as Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) in Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi in Trieste, Italy, reunited with Philharmonia Orchestra in Royal Festival Hall in London to sing Anitra in “Peer Gynt” under the baton of Esa-Pekka Salonen.

A graduate of the Yerevan State Conservatory and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Anush’s operatic experience additionally includes Helena (A midsummer night’s dream) and Clara (Betrothal in a monastery) for RCS and Scottish Opera collaborations and Frau Fluth (Die lustige Weiber von Windsor) for Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Other appearances include two solo recitals at Crush Room in Royal Opera House, singing live on BBC Radio 3 with Donald Runnicles (In Tune), Verdi Requiem in Glasgow City Halls with Scottish Opera’s orchestra, Royal Festival Hall debut with London Philharmonic Orchestra.
Anush has taken part in masterclasses with Sir Antonio Pappano, Donald Runnicles, Malcolm Martineau and Montserrat Caballe. In addition to her work with the Royal Opera House, Anush Hovhannisyan is a Samling Artist, a recipient of Bayreuth Scholarship and the Ian Smith of Stornoway Award for Opera, she is also supported by Help Musicians UK. Other prizes include Clonter Opera Prize, Margaret Dick Award, Ye Cronies Opera Award, 3rd Prize in Les Azuriales International Singing Competition.

Slovenian soprano Nika Gorič began her vocal studies alongside her ballet training at the Ballet and Music School in Maribor, graduating in 2009. She obtained her BA from the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, Austria, and completed her Master’s degree in Performance, with Distinction, at the Royal Academy of Music in London. She is currently continuing her studies on the Royal Academy Opera course under the tutelage of Lillian Watson and Jonathan Papp. Nika’s studies are generously supported by the Charles Mackerras Opera Scholarship and previously by Maria Callas and Stanley Picker Award, Slovenian Ministry of Culture and Josephine Baker Trust.

Nika has recently been awarded the Regency Award; Clifton Prize; Helen Eames Prize and Lillian Eldee Award for female singers. She was also a finalist and prize winner in the Joan Chissell Schumann Lieder Prize competition and most recently a finalist and Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra Award winner at the International Competition for Young Opera Singers ZINKA MILANOV in Croatia. Nika is a member of the Academy Song Circle and a regular soloist in the Kohn Foundation Bach Cantata series.

Nika recently made her debut as Susanna with Royal Academy Opera at Hackney Empire and has just finished performing roles of Fortuna and Pallade (L’incoronazione di Poppea) conducted by Jane Glover. While studying in Graz Nika’s operatic roles include Barbarina in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, Sandman in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel and Elisetta in Cimaorsa’s Il matrimonio segreto as well as understudying the roles of Susanna, Gretel, Anna Reich and Despina. Her operatic highlights at RAM include scenes as Ellen Orford in B/Britten’s Peter Grimes, Nina in Massenet’s Chérubin, Adele in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, Despina in Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutte and Adina in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore.

On the concert platform highlights have included recitals at King’s Place singing Berg’s 7 Frühe Lieder, the Oxford Lieder Festival with Michael Dussek, Kioi Hall in Tokyo as part of the EU Japan Fest and most recently at the Klavier Festival Ruhr with Graham Johnson. She has taken part in the Festival Maribor with Richard Tognetti and in the concert Gala Slovenica in Marburg Germany, performed Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 in Paris and London and Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.

A versatile singer, Nika is also in regular demand as an oratorio soloist, performing works from all eras at venues all over the UK, including performances in the Birmingham Cathedral, St Martin-in-the-Fields and Graz Cathedral. Her recent projects have included Bach’s Cantata Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen in the Duke’s hall; Bach’s B-minor Mass and Magnificat; Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater; Händel Dixit Dominus; Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang, Haydn’s Paukenmesse, Vivaldi’s Gloria…She has also appeared on BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’ singing a duet from Bach’s Cantata Ich hatte viel Bekümmernis.

Nika is particularly looking forward to singing soprano solos in Messiah as part of Opéra National de Bordeaux.
This summer, as a member of the Salzburg Festival Young Singers Project, Nika will take part in a new production for children of The Fairy Queen, participate in public masterclasses with Malcolm Martineau, Thomas Hampson and Christa Ludwig, and work alongside festival artists. Future engagements include performing Norina (Don Pasquale) with Slovene National Theatre.
